We only list numbers from published sources that give a Oxnard figure. All figures in this table come from HomeBlue's Oxnard cost guides, published in 2022, so expect current quotes to differ. Treat them as a starting point, not a quote.
| Job | Published Oxnard figure (HomeBlue, 2022) | Source |
|---|---|---|
| New asphalt driveway (3 to 4 inches, removing old asphalt) | $5 to $8 per sq ft. A 24 x 40 ft two-car driveway: $4,400 to $7,700 | HomeBlue, Asphalt Driveway Cost in Oxnard (2022) |
| Resurfacing with a 2-inch overlay | About $2 to $4 less per sq ft than full replacement ($2 to $4 per sq ft for a 2-inch overlay) | HomeBlue, Asphalt Driveway Cost in Oxnard (2022) |
| Driveway sealcoating | $0.30 to $0.50 per sq ft. A 24 x 30 ft two-car driveway: $230 to $380 | HomeBlue, Driveway Sealing Cost in Oxnard (2022) |
Oxnard bids often change with base repair on older driveways, drainage on flat coastal lots, and whether a curb cut or approach is part of the job. HomeBlue's sealing guide also notes that some contractors charge a $75 to $100 mobilization fee on small driveways. We did not find a sourced local figure for pothole patching alone, so ask for repair as its own line item.
Paving that stays entirely on your own lot does not touch the public right-of-way, but a new curb cut or other work at the street does.
Residential curb cuts. The City's Residential Curb Cut Application Packet says to first confirm your address qualifies by emailing encroachmentpermits@oxnard.org or calling (805) 385-7925. A complete packet includes an application signed by the owner, three copies of a site plan, proof of two vehicles registered at the address, a notarized curb cut covenant, and plan check fees of about $435. The packet says the parking pad must be 20 by 24 feet, built of a permeable material, and fit completely within your property line, and that an "A" licensed contractor is required for the work in the right-of-way. Code Compliance also inspects the garage before the permit is issued.
Other encroachment work. The City's Engineering Division Permitting Guidelines say encroachment permit applications and a site plan go to encroachmentpermits@oxnard.org, along with a temporary traffic control checklist, or in person at 214 S C St.
NOAA's 1991 to 2020 climate normals for Oxnard Ventura County Airport show about 12.9 inches of rain a year, with roughly 11.3 inches falling from November through March. June through September averages only about 0.2 inches combined.
Highs stay mild all year, from about 66 degrees in January to about 74 in August and September, and the station averages only about 2 days a year at 90 degrees or hotter. Freezing nights are rare.
Our tip for Oxnard homeowners: late spring through fall is the easiest window, since it is dry and never very hot. Avoid sealcoating right before a winter storm, and give sealcoat extra drying time on cool, damp mornings near the coast.
